DRAWING THE INVISIBLE
As in Tanizaki’s text, words are very effective when describing ambiances, feelings or evoking multy sensory experiences beyond the solely visual: temperature, sound, smell, taste. Even aging and the passing of time. These drawings explore how to depict and communicate underlying ideas embedded in various texts like Species of Spaces by Georges Perec, Naples by Walter Benjamin and The Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Gilman.
The drawings are experimentations in pattern, light, shadow and self. The artist (myself) is inserted into the image and becomes part of the work simultaneously wearing the hats of arts, author and art itself .
